By now, most of us are familiar with the charity model behind Toms: buy a pair, give a pair to someone in need. It’s been ultra-successful; something Toronto-based entrepreneur Sara Young took upon herself to recreate with homegrown roots. With her new label Kitts, she aims the one-to-one concept around underwear, an essential item often overlooked by charities. “Underwear is the most basic, personal and taken-for-granted clothing essential that’s extremely important to ones self-worth, dignity and sense of security,” says Young. “It’s one of the only items you can’t donate, and there’s a huge need.” The pairs go to Dress for Success, a Toronto-based organization that provides professional working attire and career development tools for disadvantaged women trying to dip a toe back into financially independent life.
A veritable one-stop-shop for do-gooding, the brand’s online boutique provides two styles for both women and men in a variety of colours and patterns, all made locally of eco-conscious cotton, modal and bamboo. Ever heard so many good reasons to shop? Us either.
