Guelph: Toms brings shoes to kids in need (and right to your door)

I think I’m in love. For the past few months I have been searching for a pair of casual spring shoes, hoping that if I have the shoes, perhaps the snow will melt. I’ve been flip-flopping: Vans or Converse? Chucks? Keds? It’s been so long since I’ve had a good pair of slip-ons…I didn’t know where to turn. And then, in a random conversation with a friend, all sole dilemmas were solved. He told me about Toms Shoes (tomsshoes.com). And my search was over.

The Santa Monica shoe company ships shoes across North America and for every pair of Toms sold, they donate a pair to children in need. Since May 2006, the company has donated over 10,000 pairs of shoes to children in Argentina and 50,000 pairs to children in South Africa. Volunteers can join the company on shoe drops in Argentina (something I am seriously considering for the spring months). Their hippie-chic women’s wrap boot (shown, $65) is vegan-friendly, and their canvas slip-ons (from $25) are perfectly simple and affordable. Basically, they make the decision between Vans and Converse really easy. I haven’t been this excited about a pair of shoes since my grade seven Air Jordans.

By the time my ash grey shoes are shipped to Guelph, the snow should be a thing of the past – but just to be sure, a pair of chocolate brown wrap boots will get me through the rest of the season.
