Carrying on

Hi, everyone! I’m home from my travels and back on the online desk. After I returned from Spain, I immediately hopped on a plane to California for a road-trip odyssey across the southern U.S.

My constant companion for the past three weeks of gallivanting has been my brand spanking new carry-on bag, which I needed because the rest of my luggage has more of a “camping” vibe. I picked it up at Lululemon, where I was dragged by my husband after two panicked and fruitless hours of “too small,” “too expensive,” “too luggage-y.”

Fearing a store full of gym-bag gym bags, I was happily surprised to find the Bloom (shown, $135), which is totally worthy of life outside a locker. The tote was designed for those yoga-doers with the clarity of mind to be organized: The inside is all sorted with little labelled compartments for your makeup, laptop, iPod, BlackBerry and workout clothes, plus a little drawstring bag that I used to keep any Tex-Mex–stained shirts separate from my clean clothes. If you’re going to really abuse the Bloom, I’d go with one of the nylon floral prints. The grey model I bought is a bit airplane-carpet blue from all the under-seat shoving. That said, it really did hold quite a lot and was ideal for keeping guidebooks, snacks and an array of desert-level sunscreens sorted and accessible.

The Bloom’s next trick? Fitting a weekend’s worth of clothes when I head to the YSL exhibit at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
