Non-Coffee Drinkers Can Finally Participate in Starbucks’ PSL Season

I’m a coffee-o-phobe. I don’t drink Iced Capps, eat mocha ice cream, or even touch tiramasu. Most of the year, I feel like I fit in. On limited hours of sleep, I stay alert by drinking matcha, chugging Red Bull, and eating Sour Cherry Blasters. I frequent over-priced coffee shops, and buy tea-based beverages that cost a heck of a lot more than a cup of joe. At Starbucks—where I spend enough money to earn a free bi-weekly lunch — my go-to order is a tall-non-fat-half-sweet-extra-hot-chai-latte. When the weather peaks above 15 degrees celsius, I’ll order the same drink iced (half ice, obviously.)

There is one time of year I feel left out: Pumpkin Spice Latte season, formally known as fall. As an UGG-wearing-white-girl, the inability to take part in the PSL phenomenon has been hard. Psychologically and socially damaging, even. Sure, I can order a pumpkin scone, pumpkin loaf, or pumpkin cream cheese muffin. Those Starbucks menu items are top notch and hella delicious. But is it the same? No. What I really want is indulge in the drink that inspired 14 years of memes, merchandise and knock off food items — and I’ve never been able to stomach more than a sip. Without a PSL in hand, will I ever know what it’s like to take part in Autumn’s cozy comforts? A knit turtleneck and visit to the apple orchard can only take one so far.

But alas, Starbucks has pulled through to remedy my pain. For their FW 2017 season, the coffee conglomerate has introduced the new Teavana® Pumpkin Spice Chai Tea Latte. It tastes just like the Teavana® Chai Tea Latte non-coffee drinkers know and love — except more like Fall. Finally, something to be #thankful about.
