TIFF party pics: Emily Hampshire, Rachel Blanchard, and Juliette Lewis in emerald Dolce at the Alliance bash

Last night Alliance hosted a bash for Toronto industry insiders and visiting talent to sling back a couple of cocktails under the shadow of the appropriately shiny Scotia Bank tower.

Who did we see? There were rumours of Clive Owen and David Schwimmer, but alas, no. We did however get Juliette Lewis, who’s in town supporting Conviction with Hilary Swank. You could tell she was there as an actress, rather than rock star by her teeny tiny emerald green Dolce & Gabbana. She gushed to red carpet reporters about loving TIFF for how laid back it is. Yeah, we get that a lot.

“Wait, am I the first one here? I must be the first one here!” Lewis went inside and maybe ten minutes later she was on the road again.

We also had a chance to ask Rachel Blanchard about the much-hyped Daydream Nation. Filmed outside of Vancouver, “it’s basically the story of people trying to survive, but it has a lot of dark humour and dire moments.” Blanchard kept it classic in a one-shoulder Halston LBD.

And then there was Emily Hampshire, who’s turning into a sort of red carpet fixture for us. So is her bag. The black woven Jessica Jensen bag was back and she pointed out the bag’s newly-discovered pièce de résistance:  the little side pockets where she can “store gum and other stuff.” The dress, which she picked up that day from the Chic Little Devil lounge, was almost like a body-clutching glittering ace bandage “it’s most comfortable thing because I feel like I’m being hugged, all the time.”

Geoffrey Rush and Harvey Weinstein showed face as well, but in true too-famous-for-thou, sneaked it the side door to avoid us blood-thirsty reporters. Well, you just can’t have it all.
