Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas announced a new TV show
According to Deadline, the couple, who got married last year, are executive producing a new unscripted series for Amazon Prime about an Indian pre-wedding tradition known as the sangeet. Basically a big party with choreographed dance routines performed by both the bride and the groom’s family and friends, the sangeet is one of the biggest nights on the week-long schedule of events that constitutes an Indian wedding. In an Instagram post, Chopra invited couples due to marry in the coming year to reach out to be featured on the show, whose working title seems to be the #SangeetProject. “We want to share this amazing experience with couples set to be wed. SO…if you’re engaged to be married in the spring or summer next year (2020), we want to be part of the celebration and help you make it even more spectacular,” she wrote.

Ryan Reynolds dropped an ad starring the Peloton Wife

Earlier this month, Peloton released a commercial that instantly went viral—but not for the reasons they might have hoped. In the ad, a man gives his (already very fit) wife an exercise bike as a Christmas gift, and the internet went into overdrive critiquing the sexist tones of the commercial. Within a matter of days, Ryan Reynolds’ gin company, Aviation Gin, tapped the actress—Monica Ruiz, also known as “the Peloton wife”—to star in an ad of their own. The ad shows her sitting with friends at a bar, looking thoroughly dazed, as if having just woken from a dream. Making a toast to “new beginnings,” she downs her gin martini in one long, single gulp. On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Reynolds explained the reasoning behind wanting to get a hold of Ruiz for their ad while her previous one was still being skewered on social media. “I’ve been there, in that position as an actor, where you do something that doesn’t quite work. And I really wish somebody from a gin company called me right after Green Lantern,” he quipped. From conceptualizing the idea to dropping it online, the ad reportedly took just 36 hours.

Google released its Year in Search findings
Google Canada released its annual Year in Search data, revealing the moments and people that dominated news, pop culture, entertainment, sports and more in 2019, as well as the decade. The top trending Canadian moment of the decade was understandably the Toronto Raptors’ NBA Championship win, followed by Bianca Andreescu’s rise to the highest-ranked Canadian tennis player of all time and Drake’s overtaking of the Beatles’ 50-year record for the most top 10 singles on Billboard’s Top 100 chart. Kawhi Leonard, Andreescu and Don Cherry were the top trending people of the year, while “Old Town Road,” Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones dominated searches in music, film and television respectively.

The trailer for the Wonder Woman sequel dropped
The trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 dropped this week, flashing forward several decades from the era the first film was set in. Gal Gadot of course reprises the iconic role, with Kristen Wiig joining the fray as her archrival, Cheetah. According to a one-line summary from Warner Bros, “Diana Prince comes into conflict with the Soviet Union during the Cold War in the 1980s and finds a formidable foe by the name of the Cheetah.” Chris Pine, who—spoiler!—died at the end of the first film somehow makes a reappearance, and this being set in the ’80s there’s also a lot of big hair, bold shoulders and wild outfits to look forward to when the film hits theatres in June 2020.

And ICYMI: The Golden Globes, SAG Awards and Critics’ Choice Awards nominations were announced this past week, and once again women were largely shut out from some of the biggest categories.
