Lady Gaga is rumoured to be writing a song for The Great Gatsby soundtrack!
Despite disappointment that The Great Gatsby’s original Christmas 2012 premiere date was pushed back to May 2013, the delay does mean there’s more time for exciting Gatsby rumours to unfold. Today’s edition: Lady Gaga may be recording a song for the film’s soundtrack.
According to British Vogue, actress Adelaide Clemens—who plays Myrtle’s sister in the film—spilled the beans earlier this week and also hinted that Prince may be contributing to the soundtrack. While nothing has been confirmed by Lady Gaga or the the producers of the film, we started thinking of how she could rework some of her existing songs for the film:
“Buchanan Romance” as a song that would focus on the imperfect relationship between Tom and Daisy Buchanan, with a super catchy Ga-ga-ga-ga-tssssby chorus.
“Daisy and I” because flapper costumes seem too easy. We’d much rather see Lady Gaga impersonate and dress up as Jay Gatsby and sing about his love for Daisy.
“Born as James” where Lady Gaga sings about all the tireless work Jay Gatsby did to become the mysterious millionaire.
“Beautiful, Dirty, Rich.” Okay, we’re not suggesting any changes to these lyrics because as it is, this song demands flapper choreography—and it would fit right in with Kayne and Jay-Z’s “No Church in the Wild” from the trailer.
And as a bonus, if Prince does indeed contribute to the soundtrack (fingers crossed!) how could he resist turning “Little Red Corvette” into “Little Yellow Rolls-Royce?” Your moves, Lady Gaga and Prince.
