Instagram Rolls Out a ‘You’re All Caught Up’ Feature but We’re Still Waiting on the Change We Really Want

Instagram has definitely come under fire in recent years for its algorithm changes. Despite a plethora of updates, users of the photo-sharing app aren’t seeing the one change they’ve been repeatedly asking for: chronological order. It really begs the question, why is Insta STILL ignoring us?! There’s been plenty of upset on social media, with Instagram users (especially the ones monetizing their feeds) desperately promoting their posts through the story feature, while urging their followers to (please, please, please) turn on post notifications.

But even if it’s not your job and you’re just on Instagram to hang out and post pics of your avocado toast, it’s still extremely frustrating to miss out on content from your friends and from accounts you follow. Nobody has the time to try and make sense of the ever-changing and mysterious post order and we’ve heard at least four different answers to the oft-asked question, “when is the best time to post?”.

However, it seems that Instagram has been semi-listening to our complaints, because they just rolled out a new feature called “You’re All Caught Up,” which is designed to let users know when they’ve caught up on everything posted in the past 48 hours. It does this by displaying a little green check when you’ve finished scrolling through all the content. Everything below the green check will be posts that you’ve already viewed or that are older than two days.

This new feature is helpful, for sure. It’s nice to know when you’ve seen everything and that no posts have been lost to the algorithm, but we’d still love the app to really listen to what its consumers are asking for. If we’ve learned anything in 2018, it’s that Instagram is not averse to rolling out updates. With the recent launch of IGTV and new features like adding music to stories and four-way video chat, the app seems to be serious about making changes.

At the end of the day, we just want to spend less time battling the algorithm and more time enjoying the content in a way that makes sense. Maybe this update is a good start.
