It’s Cara Delevingne’s world, and we’re barely even renting space in it. 2014 saw the model appear in campaigns for Topshop, Burberry, Chanel, and Mulberry (to name a few) – and that’s on top of her work with DKNY, with whom she collaborated with and released a capsule collection this month.
And lest we forget her acting career. This year saw turns in The Face of an Angel, London Fields and Kids in Love (the latter two have yet to be released), and last year, the 22-year-old was rumoured to be up for the lead in 50 Shades of Grey. (Even though, for the record, not landing that role was probably a blessing.)
So it doesn’t matter that Reese Witherspoon can’t pronounce her name, or that her pet bunny has more Instagram followers than all of us ever will, combined: our job is to embrace and make room for her. Because with so much hard-earned success in such a short amount of time, it’s obvious that we’ll be looking to Cara Delevingne more and more for style (and pet rabbit) answers as the 2010s progress.
Just learn how “Delevingne” is said. (And spelled.)
The best thing about dressing up as Cara Delevingne is that you’ll spend your night feeling comfortable. (And you’ll also be dressed in clothes you’ll wear over and over again.) That being said, sweatpants are a solid part of the Delevingne dress code, so pick up a pair at American Eagle for $50, then wear them forever (amen).
The woman does not shy away from an oversize t-shirt. And why should she? So: cement her tomboy style with an oversize and/or men’s tee, like this one from Forever 21’s men’s section. Or, head to your nearest Value Village and scour the t-shirt racks. (Which is what Delevingne would probably do.)
If you’re going to splurge on pieces for a costume, you might as well buy one you can justify. Enter: the official DKNY x Cara beanie that’s not just a piece of fashion history, but stays true to the model-turned-designer’s personal style. (Or, you can buy a regular beanie from any other store that exists for maybe $10 – no one’s judging, either way.)
This is the part where you get to feel smug around anybody teetering in heels because you, friend, will not be. High tops, flats, and practical footwear are Cara’s main game, so head over to ASOS for a basic pair of high tops. (Then run from house to house collecting candy.)
And if you think you can pull off a convincing Cara Delevingne without Cecil, her pet rabbit, you’ve got another thing coming. Just, whatever you do, don’t bring a real one to your party. Instead, purchase this plush guy and wait for the Instagram likes to roll in.
