From black and white pasta to ’20s-inspired cocktails, we present a quirky guide to watching the Oscars on Sunday

By Randi Bergman and Paige Dzenis

In T minus four days, the biggest (figuratively) and best (in the academy’s opinion) night in Hollywood will go down at Los Angeles’s Kodak Theatre for the 84th Annual Academy Awards. We know y’all have a viewing party planned, and if you don’t… well, get on it! Need some inspiration? Our list of oddly-inspired party favours should do the trick.

Let’s get this party started! »

Inspiration: The Descendants

Translation: This is a little too easy, but Stella McCartney’s recent surfer Resort prints are ripe for the reference. Channel the film’s Hawaiian-ness by wearing this wicked T-shirt to your soirèe.

Inspiration: Midnight in Paris

Translation: With so much dizzying spectacle to choose from in this film, we went for the one that might actually make you dizzy! Fresh in from the expert mixmasters at Grey Goose, check out this custom cocktail inspired by Woody Allen’s latest.

Bohemian Goose

Ingredients:
1 oz Grey Goose La Poire
1/3 oz Green Chartreuse
1⁄2 oz Freshly squeezed lime juice
1⁄2 oz Maraschino liqueur

Method:
Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake and strain into a chilled coupette and garnish with a pear fan.

Inspiration: My Week With Marilyn

Translation: When is better a night to doll yourself up like Marilyn Monroe? While M.A.C’s Marilyn collection isn’t out until October, her classic style can be achieved through a favourite red lipstick and boldly defined eyebrows. Try

Benefit’s Brow Zings kit to enhance your own eyebrows and shape them into Monroe’s signature arch.

Inspiration: Moneyball

Translation: Look the part of a sports insider in a silk baseball jersey jacket—but skip the chewing tobacco in favour of Big League Chew bubble gum instead.

Inspiration: The Artist

Translation: Bring on the cheese… pasta that is (see what we did there?). Serve your guests a fancy macaroni and cheese that’s Artist-appropriate with these black- and white-striped bow-tie pasta noodles.

Inspiration: Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close

Translation: In need of a last minute Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close–themed party game? Send guests in search of a lock that matches one of the keys from this necklace.

Inspiration: The Help

Translation: We’re thrilled that so many of the social morays in this film have been outmoded, but one that we’d love to bring back is the old-fashioned tea party. Serve your friends some sweet tea in this sweet looking teapot for a sweetly Southern-feeling party.

Inspiration: Hugo

Translation: Take a cue from Hugo’s somewhat steam-punk aesthetic and watch the Oscars through the green tint of these round Oliver Peoples glasses.

BONUS!

Inspiration: Melancholia

Translation: We’re so bummed that this masterpiece didn’t get nominated, we’re going to include it anyway. Prepare for future planet clashes with our new favourite iPhone app that tells you exactly where each planet and the constellations are at all times!

The Night Sky app ($1, itunes.apple.com)

Inspiration: War Horse

Translation: Make yours an Oscar party to remember (and possibly lose a few friends in the process) by serving up a spoiler alert as your main course: horsemeat steaks. Bonus points if you blindfold your guests before they sit down to eat!
