The release of Mattel’s So in Style collection of black dolls, the first ever with wider noses, fuller lips and in a variety of skin shades, has been met with disappointment. Parents are saying the prevalence of green and blue eyes as well as long, fine hair is not representative of the race. Mattel is listening though, and is working on the fall 2010 collection, adding a doll with more of an Afro hairstyle. [WSJ]

Elton John and David Furnish are hosting a pop-up shop called Out of the Closet that began on Saturday and runs until December 19, where the couple sold clothing for charity. Prices range from $16 to $650,000 for some of the iconic pieces by heavy-hitting designers like Dior and McQueen, with all proceeds going to the Elton John Aids Foundation. [WWD]

Swarovski has teamed up with an impressive roster of 22 designers to raise money for breast cancer research. DVF, Fendi, Givenchy, Thakoon, and Lanvin are among the designers who will participate. Valentino and Vivienne Westwood were both tapped to design one-of-a-kind dresses covered in crystals, that will sell at a fall auction in New York along with the rest of the project’s collection.
