Cardi B Just Landed Her First Major Fashion Collab
It’s official: 2017 is the year of Cardi B. Not only has the 25-year-old hip-hop artist made history being the second-ever female rapper to top the Billboard 100 Charts unaccompanied with her debut single, “Bodak Yellow,” but she’s also become a fashion darling of sorts, with Vogue dubbing her the “front row queen” of New York Fashion Week spring 2018.
And while we’re still patiently waiting for the Bronx-bred rapper’s inevitable beauty contract, we do have something else to look forward to: her collaboration with Steve Madden, which marks her first major fashion collab ever.
For the holiday season, Cardi (née Belcalis Almanzar) is teaming up with the footwear brand to curate her favourite shoe styles, which she showcases in a video series called “Daily Tips With Cardi B.” The series is packed with style advice from the Grammy-nominated rapper — the first video shows Cardi modelling a pair of “Daisie” pointy-toe shoes that “every woman needs to have” while the remaining videos feature the thigh-ghih “Dominique” boots to make you look “rich as hell,” white platform “Foxy” boots for “cute, sexy daytime vibes,” and a “good poppin-ass shoe” called Mimi in “p*ssy-poppin’ pink.”
The collab seems like a natural fit for Cardi, who tells Teen Vogue she wanted to work with a brand that was accessible to her fans, even though she raps about “bloody shoes” (a.k.a. Christian Louboutin heels). And Madden seems to be a fan of the rapper, too, telling WWD, “Cardi’s a very self-made woman. I’m into the whole self-made trip. We admire her, we admire what she’s doing with her life. I’m like the male version of Cardi B.”
