Leather, wool and tons of fur—it may be spring in the city, but due to sub-zero temps, show-goers stepped out for day one of Toronto’s World MasterCard Fashion Week swaddled in layers upon layers. These stylish few incorporated spring accents into their ensembles with ease.

Spotted in front of the tents at David Pecaut Square, Style Panel member Mo Handahu was a vision in brights, pairing an uncomplicated denim shirt with a turquoise fur-trimmed topper (purple locks and statement jewellery included). Samantha and Caillianne Beckerman lured photographers in with their usual statement-making garb (read: “This Is Not a Moschino T-Shirt”).

Meanwhile, FASHION’s assistant fashion editor, Eliza Grossman, stood out among the leather-jacket-clad guests, donning intricate patchwork Isabel Marant denim, a Joe Fresh toque (O, Canada!) and lace-up Gianvito Rossi booties. And, of course, Sylvia Mantella made an entrance, stepping out in the elaborately embellished opening number from Mikhael Kale’s show (complete with green shearling trim). Even off-duty models channelled sunny vibes with the neon-orange eye makeup look post-Mikhael Kale.

From reflective sunglasses to Technicolor coats, here’s the lowdown on our favourite street style looks from day one.
