Day five: Very fashionably late…
The final night of Toronto’s L’Oréal Fashion Week may have been on-trend, but it definitely was not on time. After waiting a full 1 hour 15 minutes, the lights dimmed and the music started. I put down my prosecco and picked up my pen … on with the show.
6 p.m. (read: 7:15 p.m.) Pink Tartan
Designer Kimberley Newport Mimran’s spring collection was preppy, pretty and perfectly polished. But like a date without chemistry, FASHION just didn’t get any butterflies. Though the shimmery metallic shirtdress and the white duster coat with a Peter Pan collar caught FASHION‘s eye, the majority of looks felt like a Saturday morning rerun. However, FASHION did coo over the Audrey-inspired hair, made modern with a messy knot piled high on the head, held back with a thin elastic black band. Trés chic. Overall, the collection didn’t dazzle, but the details were definitely darling: the sweet eyelet cropped jackets, the oversized black silk bows and the polka dots splashed on a chocolate wrap dress. FASHION left the show ready to have a spring fling.

And with that my stylish spring chickens, Toronto’s L’Oréal Fashion Week came to a close. The moody, broody looks this fall cleared the air for spring’s finest. So even if you have recently purchased the perfect fall ankle boots–it is never too soon to think spring–and spring shopping. After all, in the wise words of Oscar Wilde (quite a dapper fellow in his own right) “Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.” And with that, I leave you with FASHION‘s spring lust list:
- Metallic camisole for day (metallic anything, really!)
- Sheer tanks in washes of pink, lavender and cream
- Full skirt with a bubblicious hemline
- Fabulous city short with sheen
- Ruffled chiffon top
- Anything embellished with mini mirrors, beading or rosettes
