A Not-So-Brief History of Leslie Jones’ Hilarious Twitter Commentary
BRB, hiring Leslie Jones to narrate my life.
Leslie Jones is the ultimate superfan. Whether it’s sports, fashion, TV or film–she’s the hype girl you want cheering in your corner. So if something’s going down in pop culture, this Saturday Night Live star is someone you want to be paying attention to. Because Jones’ takes a good thing–like the Game of Thrones season finale or Christian Siriano’s spring 2018 fashion show–and she makes it better.
In celebration of Jones heading to PyeongChang as an NBC contributor for the 2018 Winter Olympics, let’s take a moment to look back, reflect and appreciate her long history of hillarious live commentary.
PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics
The Olympics are Jones’ bread and butter. She does it all.
She does fashion.
Yaaaassss they done scared the man into a good outfit!! @NBCOlympics @Olympics pic.twitter.com/b9Cj0hTDeg

If there was a gold medal for commentary, the Olympics would give it to Jones.
Black Panther
We haven’t seen it yet, but we already know that Black Panther is going to be one of the best movies of the year all time. And so, it’s only appropriate that Leslie Jones was in the audience to provide commentary at the film’s New York premiere.
Just left the “Black Panther” premiere if you don’t go see it I can’t be friends with you!!! IT WAS EXCELLENT, MOTIVATING, FUNNY AND JUST ALL AROUND FUCKING DOPE!!!

According to W Magazine, Jones reacted to a handful of the action scenes with a lively “Get him!” and a few whoops, “after which the entire theatre roared with applause and laughter.”
Game of Thrones
Offering Brandon Stark theories, Varys skepticism, and Cersei fashion critiques, Jones brings a level of expertise that only a true Game of Thrones fan could offer. Sure, she’s enthusiastic and hilarious, but her commentary is also thoughtful and provocative. (There is, of course, still gleeful screams.)
Man Cersei do you not watch project runway?! This hem is fucking horrible. I'm gonna need you to stop shopping for yourself! K boo boo!! pic.twitter.com/obwl20q1eM

But what’s better than a Leslie Jones live-tweet? A Leslie Jones live video commentary. Seth Meyers, also a genuinely funny person, invited Leslie Jones to watch Game of Thrones with him for a video series titled Game of Jones. “This is the most where you are like a young, nerdy white 12-year-old,” the late night host said of his former SNL colleague.
Rio 2016 Summer Olympics
Jones’ Twitter coverage of the Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro was so extravagant, it caught the attention of NBC Olympics executive producer, Jim Bell: “OK @Lesdoggg you’re officially invited to Rio. Want to come?” he tweeted on August 7, 2016.
Leslie Jones’ response? “Hmmmm don’t play cause y’all need me! I would have the whole Olympics pumped!!”
Well it was real y'all see y'all tomorrow!! pic.twitter.com/0D9FHhpz1H

Jones worked with NBC as a contributor, attending events including swimming, track and field, gymnastics, and beach volleyball. She met athletes and appeared in NBC’s on-air as well as online coverage. “We’re thrilled to have Leslie come to the Olympics,” Bell said in a statement. “She’s a member of the family, and her passion for the Olympics is remarkable.”
New York Fashion Week
Jones does fashion shows the only way they should be done: with pure enthusiasm. No stiff polite claps and carefully crossed legs — the comedian brings an unfiltered joy to the runways that pretentious fashion week audiences rarely see. Who says you shouldn’t catcall on the catwalk?
Jones made headlines when she sat in the front row of the Christian Siriano spring 2018 fashion show at NYFW. “I love you!” Jones shouted at Canadian supermodel Coco Rocha as she floated by in a ruffled black gown. Rocha later tweeted her appreciation for the love, asking the SNL star to be her permanent cheerleader.
Can #LeslieJones PLEASE be my hype woman at every fashion show and shoot?! #ChristianSiriano #NYFW #SHOOKETH @Lesdoggg @CSiriano pic.twitter.com/xv2pGG30mF

Hey Leslie, can you be our hype woman too?
