The Black Panther Soundtrack is As Epic As You Dreamed

Khalid, SZA, The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar

So far, everything we know about Marvel’s upcoming Black Panther is wildly impressive. There’s the record-breaking pre-sales, the rave critical reviews, the ineffably cool cast. And now we have proof that the film’s soundtrack is going to be just as epic.

Kendrick Lamar just revealed the tracklist on Twitter, and it includes original songs by Lamar himself (who curated and produced the album), SZA, The Weeknd and Khalid. Other contributors include Travis Scott, James Blake and Future.

A soundtrack of entirely new music is a first for any Marvel movie, and was apparently director Ryan Coogler’s idea.

“I can’t wait for the world to hear some of the art that they’ve been working on,” he told Fandango earlier this month. “I think that folks will be really excited to hear that stuff, man.”

The soundtrack will drop on February 9, which means a week of blasting the album through your apartment as you watch the trailer on repeat and (im)patiently count down the days to the film’s release on the 16th.
