Rose, whether it’s its oil, water, or wax, is ubiquitous in beauty but specifically in skincare; it’s anti-inflammatory and reduces redness, it’s high in Vitamin C and it’s also deeply moisturizing. But one of the oldest products on the market to feature the powers of the bloom was Dr. Hauschka Rose Day Cream; the company recognized the plant’s unique properties early on. “It’s fascinating to see what the rose – a master of balance – can do for our skin,” explains pharmacist Annette Greco, Head of Product Development at Dr. Hauschka. “The rose is vibrantly young in character yet still durable; defensive yet open to its environment; thorny yet velvety. Its ability to embody these contrasting characteristics and combine them into one perfect aesthetic is proof of its harmonising potential for cosmetics. It’s for this reason that almost all Dr. Hauschka cosmetic products contain rose in some form.”

The Germany-based natural brand launched the cream in 1958 and it slowly became one of those cult-y items you’d hear get name checked from those in the know, whether it was a celebrity or a makeup artist. Probably because it sinks right in, leaves you dewy and is considered one of the best moisturizers under $40 (USD). And to really blow you away, one tube–still available in metal, yes!–contains the equivalent of about 35 rose buds. Dreamy. To celebrate its 50th anniversary, there’s a limited edition version that comes in a 50ml size. That’s an additional 20ml of cream from the regular size that we’ll definitely be taking the time to smell. And use.
