3 hairstyles to try in 2016 that aren’t beachy waves (or anything else that says IDGAF)

Who hasn’t stood in front of a mirror, alternating between curling iron and flat iron for an hour, only to mess it all up in the end and opt for a halo of frizz (in the name of #iwokeuplikethis, of course). For what seems like an eternity now, loose waves that look effortless have been the only acceptable look. See: messy French girl hair. Which is fine, but tired. We propose in 2016 that we abandon the IDGAF look and stop denying that we actually work hard on our hair.

A sleek and super-shiny blowout

Nothing says effort like pin-straight, glossy hair. And when you add extensions that go down to your butt? Those are heavy and they make just holding your head up a workout. How’s that for putting in effort?

Whether you need some long hair styling inspo or you’re not sure where you stand on the great blowout debate, do your research and then get straightening. And glossing. And combing. And touching up. (We told you, it takes effort to look put-together.) #2016

A faux bob

New year, new you? Haircuts are an often popular choice come January, but if you’re not ready to commit to a chop, you could always fake it.

Gigi Hadid’s hairstylist Bryce Scarlett revealed that at last year’s American Music Awards, he concealed Hadid’s wavy strands with a half-wig that created the illusion of a bob. A half-wig! Of course, you could always do the classic tuck-under to create your faux bob. Here’s how to get the (surprisingly easy) look.

Bangs

“Should I get bangs?” is something everyone asks at some point in their lifetime. Actually getting bangs is not something everyone does in their lifetime. Why? Because they’re time-consuming AF! But that’s what 2016 is about, right?

Unless your hair is perfectly straight, you have to blow dry your bangs every time you wash them. And you have to wash them every day! Even if you don’t wash your hair daily, rinsing (and then blow-drying) your bangs in the sink is generally a good idea to keep them—and you—looking fresh.
