Think of Herbivore Botanicals as the indie beauty brand that could. What started out as a soap-making business in a Seattle kitchen quickly turned into an Etsy sensation and has now become one of the biggest natural beauty brands globally, with Sephora, Urban Outfitters, Nordstrom and more selling the products.
Herbivore uses only natural ingredients that are ethically sourced and never tested on animals. Since the brand uses no fillers, the result is pure, highly-concentrated and effective formulas. They also use healing crystals in their products, which we spoke to the brand about here. “I like to call this spiritual science,” says Willie Freitas, Herbivore’s brand educator.
Then there’s the packaging — minimalistic and totally Instagrammable. Seriously, your top shelf will benefit from a few of these products. Ready to learn more about the brand? Check out some of our favourite Herbivore Botanicals products below:
Bamboo Charcoal Cleansing Bar Soap

The product that started it all. Herbivore started when co-founder Alex Kummerow gifted his wife (and fellow co-founder) Julia Wills with a soap making kit. She began crafting soaps in their Seattle kitchen, one of which instantly cleared up Kummerow’s eczema and psoriasis. Soon, they had too many soaps to use for themselves, so they began selling at their local farmer’s market and Etsy and, well, the rest is history. To this day, this soap still continues to be one of the brand’s best-sellers. Oh, and fun fact: All of it is made by Wills’s father.
