The culture club: 6 stops for a sunny Saturday bike ride
We’ve been working on our fitness as of late, taking to the road on our Batavus bikes. We’ve put together a little Saturday itinerary below for a great city ride. Enjoy:
10:00 a.m. For the first stop of the morning, caffeinate at Scratch (1358 Bathurst St., 416-536-2220) with the best espresso north of Bloor.
10:30 a.m. Bike through Wychwood Park and check out the beautiful century homes that have over-grown gardens and ivy reaching up massive trellises. It feels like biking through the country right in the middle of the city.
11:00 a.m. Hit the Wychwood Barns (601 Christie St.) for the Green Barn Farmers’ Market (greenbarnfarmersmarket.org) to stock up on picnic necessities. Be sure to make it before noon, when they close up shop.
12:00 a.m. Next stop, Toronto’s Annex neighborhood and the U of T campus. Once you settle on the tree that provides the most ideal canopy, set up shop and enjoy your picnic, play some Frisbee or take a catnap.
1:00 a.m. Get cultured at the AGO. Take in Drama & Desire: Artists and the Theatre (until September 21), which features work by artists such as Edgar Degas, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and John Singer Sargent that were inspired by the theatre, arranged amidst props and theatrical sets. (Note that the AGO is closed this weekend for the G20.)
3:00 a.m. Soak in the afternoon sun on the hidden garden terrace at L’Espresso Bar Mercurio (321 Bloor St. W., 416-585-2233)
This is about as much activity we Culturites could pack into one day without collapsing. Feel free to carry on, but we suggest an afternoon snooze!
