Kate Middleton and Prince William dance the night away in grass skirts and floral headdresses (oh, and Alice by Temperley!)

Yesterday we asked if it was possible for Kate Middleton and Prince William to look even more relaxed during the last leg of their royal tour of Southeast Asia and the South Pacific and today it seems that the answer is a very enthusiastic “YES!” This morning they arrived in Tuvalu, a Polynesian island that’s north of Fiji (almost closer to Hawaii than it is to Australia) and Will and Kate were immediately immersed in the local culture. After being greeted by the Governor General, Kate Middleton and Prince William were carried through the crowd on thrones created just for the occasion. Then came the flower headdresses—which paired quite well with Kate’s pale-yellow daisy eyelet lace dress. The very Louis Vuitton Spring 2012-esque frock was made by an unnamed seamstress (apparently a custom order for Kate) and has oversized sleeves, a trim waist and a pleated skirt. Kate Middleton was also wearing her Stuart Weitzman Minx wedges and Kiki McDonough Citrine Drop earrings.
But it was later that night that the real island party began. While Kate Middleton and Prince William did show up to the evening’s island feast celebration in somewhat casual attire, they probably didn’t guess they would soon be accessorizing with traditional Tuvaluan floral headdresses and grass skirts—and then learning how to dance! Or maybe Kate knew: the embroidered Alice by Temperley Beatrice crepe maxi dress she wore certainly complemented the craftwork of the grass skirts. Another interesting moment from the evening was when Kate sprayed Paul Smith London for Men eau de toilette on warriors at the party. It’s considered a tradition for visiting dignitaries and so Will and Kate were asked to bring a fragrance of their choice. (Do you think it’s also what Prince William wears?) So there you have it: when it comes to planning a Diamond Jubilee tour, it’s always best to start with the highly formal and end with a country that will command the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to dance in grass skirts. Without a doubt it has to be the highlight for everyone involved—after all, we haven’t seen Kate Middleton smile like that since the Olympics!
