The Fashion News You Missed This Week
Here is the latest from the fashion world.
New Concepts @NordstromMen launched Concept 009: Thom Browne
The ninth concept in Nordstrom’s New Concepts series has been announced as an exclusive Thom Brown collection. With over 30 styles across ready-to-wear, accessories and lifestyle pieces—priced anywhere from $110 to $3,500—the new line “was inspired by the spirit and achievement of the varsity athlete,” said Thom Brown. He also declared that the energy of university athletics was captured, and that the in-store experience mimics a collegiate locker room environment. Sam Lobban, Nordstrom’s VP of designer ready-to-wear and New Concepts said: “We have learned more about our menswear customer with each New Concept launch. What we are excited to discover with Thom Browne is how the concept of ‘suiting’ continues to evolve in the eyes of consumers.” After seeing many iterations of this concept on the runway, Lobban said they are taking the idea of combining traditional as well as unconventional tailoring to Nordstrom’s broader customer base. The wares will be available through May 3, and can be purchased on Nordstrom.com/NewConcepts or at Pacific Centre in Vancouver.
Rick Owens and Champion partnered on an athletics-inspired capsule collection
Renowned fashion designer Rick Owens joined forces with Champion to design a collection of edgy athleticwear-turned-streetwear. The 10-piece capsule dropped on March 12, and includes tank-style bodysuits, vests and mesh vests, toga mesh shorts, basketball shorts, briefs, asymmetrical T-shirts and sweatshirts. Owens’s aesthetic is imbued into these sporty black-and-white pieces, which are completed with a selection of branded logos. Shop it through online retailers like Ssense, Farfetch and Selfridges.
Zayn Malik models in Anwar Hadid and Yoni Laham’s jewellery ad
Zayn Malik’s latest modelling gig comes courtesy of Anwar Hadid and musician Yoni Laham, for their unisex jewellery brand Martyre. In the campaign photos, Malik models sterling silver, gold and diamond encrusted pieces. Martyre is a fairly young brand, having only established itself in 2018. However in the two years since, the brand has been worn by the likes of Dua Lipa, the Hadid sisters, Hailey Bieber, Kaia Gerber and more.
H&M announced that the Spring 2020 Conscious collection will drop later this month
H&M’s extended collection, H&M Conscious Exclusive, is back for another season. This time around the wares are infused with glamour from the Golden Age of train travel, with timeless pieces and elevated classics on offer. “The design team felt [that a train] was wonderfully symbolic of H&M’s journey as a company towards circularity. We were inspired by [the 1920’s] Le Train Bleu and decadent creatives such as Jean Cocteau and Pablo Picasso hanging out at Villa Santo Sospir in Cap Ferrat,” says Ella Soccorsi, a designer at H&M. The gauzy day dresses and dreamy evening wear are born from a host of innovative sustainable practices. Deadstock fabrics from previous collections, in combination with Circulose (a natural material sourced from recycled textiles) and Renu (a quality recycled polyester) are the base of this collection, driving forward the Swedish fashion giant’s goal to only use recycled or sustainably sourced materials by 2030. Shop the H&M Conscious Exclusive Spring 2020 collection online and in select stores, starting March 26.
