April 2015 horoscopes: Everything you need to know about the new moon + navigating through Aries season
Compared to March, the waters ahead are calm. Spring has arrived, and with it, the birth of a new astrological year. Each year, the beginning of Aries season is like emerging into the world for the first time. We take this force and strength forward into our lives, so consider where you are becoming new right now, and where you might harness the Aries strength.
The full moon in Libra happens on the 4th, and acts as a time to notice whether or not we have balance in our lives, whether we allow both the heart and the mind to lead us at different times, and have an ongoing dialogue between the two. The new moon in Aries happens on the 18th, and though it is occurring in the dynamic action-oriented sign of Aries, it is really about surrendering, learning how to use our will in a way that goes with, rather than against, the grain of reality. This is not a time for turning things around, it is about accepting what is, and committing to follow through with it. In the meantime, all that cosmic heat from last month is cooling off, and we can all breathe into this pause and this moment of acceptance.
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
If you’re reading this it means you made it out alive. Congratulations! It’s time to have some fun. Remember fun? It’s the thing where you’re not going to war and you get to be wild and playful. You can have some of that too, sometimes. In fact, this is a great month for you to have fun and earn money while you’re at it. Not only do people want to hear what you have to say, they value it, too. This means, though, that you’ll also have to put your money where your mouth is, if money is what you’re after.
Be authentic in what you practice and preach, and abundance will follow you. Embrace the bold, bright colours of spring in your wardrobe this month. All that vivid pink and green about to come bursting through the earth can burst forth on you as well, and you can bring some of these vibrant spring tones into your makeup if you’re feeling inspired. Step back and observe your relationships on the full moon on the 4th; is there balance? Do you offer and receive with an equal flow?
On the other hand, the new moon on the 17th is all about you and your completely unique, singular identity. Decide who you will be this year and how you will express yourself, and make it part of this decision to not be so reactive to the judgment of others. If someone else is judging you, they’re the ones experiencing some sort of discomfort, and you would be wise to not take that on.
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
I am hesitant to tell you to sleep it off this month, because I know if I do, it means some of you will get stuck on the couch, or that you might not even make it from the bed to the couch. No matter, whether you spend half the day sleeping or just a few hours, pay attention to your dreams. Your desires are speaking to you through the astral realm right now and all you need to do is listen. If you rarely remember your dreams, it helps to journal in the morning or decide very clearly to remember before falling asleep.
Dress yourself with passion, whatever that means to you. It could be rich, fiery colours, it could be silk and cashmere all month, or it could be sexier than you’re used to. If you can somehow balance that with a flair for mystery, you will be your own horoscope embodied. Half fiery extrovert, half contemplative introvert this month, you’re living more extremes than is normal for you.
If your pockets have felt a little empty, they’ll start to fill out again from the 11th on. As long as you are putting in the hours to help yourself catch up. If you’re feeling uncomfortable around the new moon on the 18th and can’t figure out why, spend some quiet time in meditation or nature or both and let your mind be quiet enough to hear what’s going on underneath. Something is trying to break through like the first flowers poking through the earth in spring.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
You could have been a lawyer. Maybe some you are. You can talk your way out of or into just about anything. Be careful, this month, what you choose to talk yourself in and out of. I say “choose to” because it may feel at times like you are not even choosing your own words, but it’s important to recognize that you are. When you speak with awareness, especially around the 8th, you are electrifying.
Something is shifting in you, allowing you to recognize your own inner authority and to trust your wisdom, as long as you are speaking from a place of integrity. Experiment with unusual fabrics and asymmetrical lines this month. April is your time to push the boundaries of your stylistic comfort zone and try some things that are out of the ordinary. Stores are stocking spring colours but you are pushing against the grain.
From the 14th on, take some extra space away from the crowd. Daydreaming and aimless adventuring are not wastes of time, they are recharging a part of your brain that you don’t often use. This is a very healthy balance to explore, and to understand the importance of cultivating your imaginative creative brain. This theme is especially important on the new moon on the 18th, when you have a chance to reset the balance between your unique, individual self, and the places where you merge with the rest of the world and feel a part of something greater. The very end of the month is a beautiful time to express this individual self you’ve cultivated, and share your wisdom with others.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Some people think you are like a shy crab that has to sidle around sideways to get what you want, but I think you are like a queen bee running the show from the centre of the hive. You may not realize it but you hold a strong capacity for leadership and natural authority. What’s even better is that you know how to run the show with absolute compassion and respect for everyone involved. This ability for leadership is coming in strong this month, and it may surprise even you that when you speak, others snap to attention and organize themselves around you.
Make sure you exercise compassion in the projects and places where you are leading; leave no one behind, and be willing to hear everyone out. Add some floor-length drama to your outfits, and go with darker colours. It’s possible you might want to take a trip somewhere, especially the first half of the month, in which case you can bring your new floor-length attire on vacation. You’re learning to communicate differently in relationships, and it will get easier from here on out.
From the 14th on, devote some time to your friendships and let yourself have a little fun with people you love. There’s nothing unproductive about letting this kind of joy into your life. On the new moon on the 18th, decide exactly what it is you are offering to the world and your community. What do you want to say? What is your leadership leading? Be sure to include others in this picture as well.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
While most people consider Aquarians and Sagittarians the philosophers of the zodiac, I see you over there, asking the big questions. But if these questions are not always somewhere in the back of your mind, I would encourage you to let them be. The courage and bravery so often associated with your sign is required to continue asking these questions, because not only are they often answered with difficult answers, but also more often than not, there is no answer. So the journey becomes about you being brave enough to ask the questions without expecting an answer to them.
Dark blues and purples are your colours this month, which may contrast with spring starting to come into effect around you, but there’s a certain seriousness coming over you right now. Let your style get serious too, even though I know how much you prefer to remain lighthearted, because like all things, this too will pass. During the first week of the month, it may feel like these bigger questions are more like burdens, and could present some challenges at work and in your relationship to authority. But your own ideas are starting to emerge in the process, and part of the challenge is just in you respecting your own wisdom. If you have been waiting to make a career change, or find some more clarity on what exactly your career is, the new moon on the 18th is the perfect time to make these decisions. Things will start to line up differently for you after this.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Sometimes we are afraid of things without knowing why. There is a great difference between action and reaction, and you would do well to notice the difference this month. When you react to a situation you are letting fear run the show; you say or do something that doesn’t even seem like you, or that creates more tension in a situation. When you act in a situation you are coming from a place of clarity, a place of really knowing what you need and want beyond what you are afraid of.
You might react to things this month before you even realize what’s happening, and if that’s the case, take the opportunity to go back over the situation later in your head and figure out how you could have done things differently, and what would have really felt true and authentic for you in that moment. Buy yourself something that makes you feel sexy. Feeling sexy might look quite different for all of you but it’s ultimately about getting comfortable in your own skin and sensuality.
If you have been thinking about taking up a new path of study or education, the new moon on the 18th is the right time to make decisions. Make sure it’s something that serves a long-term goal and is not just another idea in a long and difficult process of feeling uncertain about your path.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Last month I talked about all kinds of transformation going down in your partnerships and relationships, and there’s still some residue of the same theme happening this month. The challenge right now lies in your tendency to somehow disappear into another person, and forget that you have a beautiful, unique, individual voice. We need your voice right now Libra, and it needs to be your own. Though you get lost in relationships, it can also be the place where you are found again, if you commit to staying strong in the presence of another.
You can, in fact, be even stronger through this instead of feeling like you have to remove yourself from relationship altogether in order to stay strong. If you don’t own any leather, go out and get yourself a jacket, maybe even from a vintage store so it’s already broken in. Or break out an old pair of leather boots, especially if you can find them in your parents’ basement. They’ll help you feel strong.
You may feel after the 11th like you are hungry again for knowledge, so consider learning a new skill or taking a class. It doesn’t have to be a long-term pursuit, but it has to be enough to satisfy your curious urges. It could even be that there’s a class you are ready to teach or a skill you are ready to share with others. The new moon on the 18th may be a good time for you to decide how much of that leadership you want to bring into the workplace. You are able to lead without getting too involved in some of the power dynamics this can sometimes entail.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
After what’s felt like an unusually creative and inspired month to you, it’s time to refocus some of that in another direction. You are being called back to work (though don’t get me wrong, I think you have probably never stopped working hard in your life), and you can bring some of that creative energy into the workplace like a breath of fresh air. Point out some new ideas. Invent some unusual solutions for unusual problems. Get rid of any old, out-dated systems still in place that are preventing this work from moving forward in some way.
Toward the middle of the month, start to direct your always intense and ever-revelatory focus into your primary relationships. Just because something isn’t broken, doesn’t mean it doesn’t need your love (notice how I didn’t say something needs to be fixed?). There are no bosses in relationship. If there are, see what you can do to balance things out a little bit.
Lean toward a more casual style this month, with looser fits and the occasional print. Wear your hair down and your cuffs up, but the laundry still has to get done. In fact, the small details of life like laundry and cleaning the inside of the stove are more helpful than they might initially seem to you right now. As all that intensity from last month cools off, you find you are able to express with depth and clarity, especially from the 16th on, and that others will listen. Perhaps it’s time to start expressing things in a different way than you have been the past few months; don’t be afraid to show a little vulnerability.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
It’s no surprise to any of us that you are itching to be your most playful self this month, Sagittarius. What may come as a surprise to you is that you are also feeling pulled toward a new sense of responsibility that can seem almost foreign. Back and forth like a see-saw you go—fun, responsibility, fun, responsibility—until you (hopefully) realize at some point that it doesn’t have to be one or the other. Not only are there many hours in a day, but you can choose to take things on that express your creative, delightful nature. And you can choose to have fun while you’re hard at work.
Channel your creativity into your style this month; wear light colours and treat each day’s outfit like a different painting. One small brushstroke added in the corner has an altering effect on the whole image. The first week of the month is a thrill to your inner philosopher; there is infinite knowledge for you to soak up, but you do a pretty amazing job of tackling it in large amounts. Follow the inspiration to know the universe the way you would intimately know a lover.
Toward mid-month it may feel like your commitments at work are compromising your ability to follow your love of knowledge, but again I assure you the two don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Bring your philosophy into your work. As your heart opens wider in your relationship, or opens to the idea of one, you start to learn how to speak your partner’s language. It’s really the same language after all, though it may not have seemed that way before.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
You are way more into nesting than you let on. At least, you are right now. Capricorns are all about managing things, but this doesn’t have to mean other people or a company, you can manage a home just as well as anything else, as long as you don’t become overly invested in the ownership of material things. Beauty in the home may lift your spirits, but at the end of the day, it’s just stuff. And do we ever really own anything anyways?
Once you are finished nesting (probably around mid-month), you can turn your attention to creative projects around the house. Paint on a wall instead of a canvas if you’re feeling wild. DIY a bunch of attractive storage solutions. This is a great time for you to breathe some fresh air into your wardrobe, too. Do a massive spring-cleaning and then go out and find some new pieces that feel a little less serious and a little more fun to you. This could even just be in the colours you’re choosing.
That now-familiar push and pull between alone time and time where you are working hard surfaces again around mid-month, but it will pass. Make it your goal to bring beauty into both ends of that spectrum. You have the occasional sensation that there’s a thorn in your side, but it’s hard to really understand what’s going on. That’s when you know the pendulum has swung too far away from the quiet, contemplative space you need right now.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Congratulations on learning how to be a good communicator. It’s so easy for you to rationalize your feelings away (or be blind to the fact that they even exist), and though your intention is to be peaceful and create less conflict, this can often backfire because there are certain things being ignored. It seems like you are much more forgiving of those parts of yourself you previously just rationalized away in a dialogue. Not only is this wonderful for your own evolution, but you are teaching others through example.
A beautiful balance is possible between experience and perspective; one is not better than the other. The first week of the month launches you into a whole string of ideas that it’s hard for even you to keep up with. You’re going to need a whole team of people working with you to bring these ideas into practice. Experiment with prints this month, and a certain light-heartedness in your style. Spring has sprung in your wardrobe too, so mirror the youthful budding of the plants and flowers in your outfits.
It may have been hard in the past while to find a home that gives you the sense of stability you really want and need. Use the new moon on the 18th as an opportunity to decide what it is that you do need in a home. If you’re not clear with yourself about what you want, it’s hard to actually get that thing. Know that you are worthy of a beautiful living space.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
This is a great time for you to get your ducks in a row. It’s no easy task for a Pisces because the ducks are usually left to drift all scattered over the ocean, but you’re only helping yourself in the coming months if you can do this. Do your taxes, pay off your bills, and balance out your account. Make time to cook and clean and be physically active, in nature if you can. This may sound like a lot to some of you but there’s a certain simplicity to it once you bring yourself to the task.
Then, as things start to get busier for you around mid-month, you have a solid foundation of self-care that will see you through. Go for structure in your outfits too, not just your organizational life. Clean, fitted lines and angles are working for you, as are solid colours in place of prints. I still want to see your personality shining through in your wardrobe. On the new moon on the 18th, reset your intentions for how you want to communicate with others. Find the balance that exists between your raw, passionate self-expression that has been emerging this past while and a calm, grounded stable place from which you can express this so that you aren’t tossed about in the winds of your own fire. Consider, also, the possibility that you might be ready to teach something you have been studying for some time. For many of you, writing it down is teaching in itself.
