The Royal Wedding Has Launched These 10 New Wedding Trends

The Meghan Markle effect is in full force.

Are you over the royal wedding? We certainly are NOT! We’ve analyzed all angles of Harry & Meghan’s romantic and regal wedding day and there is SO much to love. From the newly crowned Duchess of Sussex’s instantly iconic Givenchy wedding gown to the mini-bridal squad to the incredible florals, this wedding has launched some serious new wedding trends—here’s 10 of the best.

Embellishment-Free Gowns

Meghan chose British designer Clare Waight Keller from Givenchy to craft her exquisite gown that made headlines for its simplistic style and tailoring. Waight Keller has revealed the gown took 3900 hours to complete and was a close collaboration between herself and Meghan and the aim was a “modern, fresh design” made from double bonded silk cady which featured three-quarter sleeves, a sculpted waist and a soft round train supported by a triple-silk organza underskirt.

Bateaux Necklines

The flattering neckline of Meghan’s dress was one of our favourite details. It is one of the most flattering necklines for a bridal gown because it typically adds an easiness to the gown silhouette and helps accentuate nipped tailoring at the waistline. In the case of Meghan it was a perfect match for her easy updo, incredible tiara and epic veil.

Veils

Ask any bridal designer and they will tell you to wear a veil on your wedding day. They add an instant dreaminess to your look and honestly, there will never be another time in your life to wear such an accessory. Meghan’s breathtaking 16-foot long veil featuring hand embroidered flowers from the 53 Commonwealth countries proves this point entirely. The veil is now officially the hottest and hautest bridal accessory.

Bandeau Headpieces

Meghan’s chosen tiara was the dazzling Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau which was made in 1932 but features a detachable centre brooch dating back to 1893. Her style choice was impeccable as it created a modern princess vibe due to its sleek profile.

Meaningful Flowers

Phillipa Craddock created the most incredible florals for the royal wedding. We’ve shared all the details of the day’s incredible arrangements, but the thing we loved most was how they were filled with so much sentiment. White garden roses were Diana’s favourite, as were the Forget-Me-Nots picked by Harry himself to include in Meghan’s bouquet. What an amazing way to add sentiment and a personal touch to your wedding day.

Amplified Everyday Beauty

Meghan looked like Meghan on her wedding day and we adored that! Her easy, breezy was created by Serge Normant and featured a neat bun paired with a centrepart and Meghan’s signature wispy bangs. Makeup artist Daniel Martin created Meghan’s signature glowy skin (with freckles on full display!), smokey bronze eyes with fluttery lashes and peachy pink lips. Skip the heavy contour, bronzer and bold shades…look like you on your wedding day with your everyday look amped up to be the most beautiful version of you.

Fresh Cake Flavours

The couple made headlines when they announced they were ditching the traditional English fruitcake in favour of a lemon and elderflower flavoured sponge cake. The couple embraced the season of their wedding and weren’t afraid to experiment with something new and different.

The Mini Bridal Party

Harry & Meghan had 10 wee ones in their bridal party and they certainly made for some incredible moments and photobombs. The darling squad added instant charm to the day and if you have the right kids (and parents to wrangle) for the job for your wedding, we suggest having a mini squad too.

A Sexy Second Dress

For her nighttime reception, Meghan turned up the heat with her wedding look choosing a Stella McCartney halter gown with serious red carpet sizzle. Her two looks were spot on for her style and impeccable in their contrast to one another. Don’t be afraid to get a little more daring for your second dress choice.

Non-Traditional Wedding Photos

Harry and Meghan decided to mix up the royal wedding traditions when they hired fashion photographer Alexi Lubomirski to snap the official pics. From what we’ve seen, he’s managed to perfectly capture the light and love between these two just as he did for their engagement photos. Spontaneous and spirited is the new candid wedding photo vibe.
