Airbnb is Giving Away an Out-Of-This-World Trip to Two Lucky Space Fans
On August 21, North America will experience its most accessible total eclipse of the sun in decades — and people are, like, really excited about it. Fake solar protection glasses are flooding the market, hotel and airfare prices have skyrocketed, and NASA has planned to chase the eclipse with two 1960s warplanes. If you’re into space stuff, an event like this doesn’t roll around twice in one lifetime.
Airbnb has partnered with National Geographic to get in on the fun, by offering two lucky space fans a very cool opportunity: a view of the total solar eclipse from a private jet. Winners of the contest will fly to Bend, Oregon on August 20 to spend the eve of the eclipse in a transparent geodesic dome. The Pinterest-pin-board-worthy digs come equipped with an observation deck, telescopes, aesthetically pleasing indoor plants — oh, and an astrophysicist to talk to you about outer space.
The following morning, winners will board a private flight to the path of totality, The two-hour flight will start out over the Pacific Ocean and follow the eclipse as it passes over the coast, giving passengers 1 minute and 58 seconds of eclipse viewing — about one minute more than what’s possible on land.
Starting Tuesday, Airbnb users in the U.S. and Canada can begin entering the content online. All you have to do to win is tell Airbnb why you think the solar eclipse is bringing people together, and why you want to be a part of it. Easy enough right?
