Canadian wonder boy Tommy Ton describes a favourite shot from his collection of street style photographs.

“This was one of my very last moments of New York Fashion Week—I had been freezing my butt off for eight days in the cold, and it was one of those instances where you see someone and it just validates why you do what you do. I’ve actually shot Annina before, but for me this was her shining moment of street style. I just think it’s the perfect example of layering 101—you don’t want to overdo it, you don’t want to mix-and-match too much and you don’t want it to look too obvious. That’s why I love this look. When you peel apart the outfit, it’s really just every essential of a winter wardrobe—motorcycle jacket, plaid scarf, boyfriend jean, basic pump, simple clutch, shawl—expertly put together. In most cases, when you look at street style, you can tell there were certain things running through that person’s mind when they put their outfit together, and it was refreshing to see someone dressed so authentically. With so many photographers at fashion week now, I think the obvious characters that always get photographed are kind of the perfect bait. When Anna Dello Russo or one of the Russians arrives, they attract the attention of all the photographers, which gives me the opportunity to look elsewhere and see who’s walking behind them or coming around the corner.”
