Patricia Field and the redemption of a Shopaholic

I’ve got a confession to make: I hate chick flicks. There’s nothing wrong with them, per se, they’re just not my thing. That doesn’t mean I haven’t seen How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Chasing Liberty, because I have and I loved them. (I may have even seen one in the theatres). It’s just that, if given the choice between, say, 27 Dresses and Anchorman, I’m going with Will Ferrell every time.

That said, I do make one exception to my “no chick flicks allowed’ rule.” And that exception’s name is Patricia Field. Field, as I’m sure you’re well aware, is the Emmy Award-winning force behind the outrageous style in Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada. Her latest foray into film is Confessions of a Shopaholic, which opens February 13.

Judging by the trailer, the styling has the unmistakable Pat Field flair. There’s colour (pink! orange! lemon!), covetable handbags, sky-high heels, layers of ruffles and fur everywhere. It’s over-the-top, sure, but that’s what I loved about SATC and TDWP. It’s a delicious fantasy. I love the idea of a woman flouncing down Fifth Avenue in an orange-and-purple cape or a hot-pink tulle veil; I might never be that woman, but I delight in watching her fabulous antics.

What about you? Will you be checking out Shopaholic this weekend? Do you love the books or are you just in it for the frothy fashions? Tell me in the comments.
