How to Wear Oversized Sleeves: Style Panel Works The Season’s Biggest Trend

Oversized and statement have become synonymous. Big glasses, big bags, big shoulders and now, sleeves. When Vetements sent super long sleeves down the runway, we knew we were in for an shirting revolution. While length is one way to get the look, we’ve also seen styles that amp up the volume and statement factor with ballooning shapes and unexpected embellishment. The trick to this trend may lie in the functionality (how do you navigate a dinner table with all that extra fabric?) but Style Panel is up for the challenge.

Challenge #180:   How to wear an oversized sleeve?

Check our our Style Panel’s tips on how to supersize your sleeves.

One of my favourite trends for Spring is exaggerated sleeves. The voluminous ruffles on my white shirt add some drama to an otherwise classic style.  To keep the look light and casual I pair my shirt with  floral embroidered jeans.

Liat is wearing: Jeans and shirt, Zara; Boots, Aldo; Bag, Olivia+joy; Bracelet, Topaz jewelry; Choker; Siammpatra.

Step up your style game this spring with a statement sleeve. Add a bell sleeve to any look for a refresh. I’ve layered my oversized sleeve under a dress but to keep things more casual I would pair it with jeans.

Teresa is wearing: Top, Zara; Dress, Aritzia; Chocker, M for Mendocino.

The ruffled panels on the sleeves  of my blouse give it a super exaggerated look. Paired with light jeans and booties this top does all the talking.

Mikyla is Wearing: Top, Make Me Chic; Boots, H&M; Sunglasses, Calico.

Krystin Tysire, 22

I’ve styled my floral bell-sleeve blouse with jeans and pumps for a ’70s vibe. The print makes my shirt easy to pair and my soft pink accessories bring out the colour in the floral.

Krystin is wearing: Blouse, Forever 21; Jeans, American Eagle; Bag, Hieleven; Sunglasses, Rayban; Shoes, AMIClubwear.

My black Georgette top with exaggerated sleeves  is a statement piece in itself. I’m wearing it with basic skinny jeans and some bright accessories. The billowy look is comfortable and stylish  making it perfect for an evening out.

Sarmistha is wearing: Top, Femella; Jeans, Boohoo; Shoes, Jabong; Head Band, Koovs.

The exaggerated sleeve trend seems to be everywhere this spring. Since the sleeve is such a statement,  I like to style it with something simple on the bottom like a pair of jeans or a pencil skirt.

Laura is wearing: Top, Chic Wish; Jeans, Levis 501c; Necklace, Vintage; Bag, Vintage.
