Then and Now: Decoding Kate Middleton’s Canadian Arrival Style
Our favourite Duchess returns to Canada and the much-anticipated moment of Kate Middleton stepping off the plane for us to see her arrival outfit is finally here. Today we were pleasantly surprised with an uber chic blue, Jenny Packham dress, a matching Lock & Co. hat and a diamond maple leaf brooch borrowed from the Queen.
The look reminds us of her 2011 Canadian tour when she arrived in a navy lace Erdem dress, but today’s sky blue look definitely packed more punch with it referencing British Columbia’s flag. Coordinating nicely with her most important accessories, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, their mommy-matching looks nearly stole the spotlight. It may also inspire an influx of knee socks throughout Canadian children’s wear. #justsaying
One of the most admirable things about Kate is her ability to recycle pieces from her collection. Although today’s look wasn’t a repeat, her Lock & Co. hat was very similar to the red version she wore on her last visit and her the Queen’s seriously appropriate maple leaf brooch was worn many times throughout Kate’s first Canadian tour (because when else would you wear a maple leaf brooch?).
Despite these similarities there’s something different about Kate’s style this time around. When comparing her looks then and now, her style evolution seems to be taking a more classic and conservative path. As a mother of two young children, the severeness of her look with her hair up and a form-fitting dress may feel unusual, but nonetheless, still incredibly stylish. Word on the street is that the Queen had requested a more regal wardrobe from Kate’s PA-turned-stylist, Natasha Archer.
Though we thought her previous Australian tour with Prince George was flawless, this regal fashion overhaul comes as a bit of a surprise since Kate has always been royalty in our books. But likely with the addition of Princess Charlotte, a glam squad (read: Archer and hairstylist Amanda Tucker) was needed to make sure her style looked effortlessly chic for the Canadian tour. Case in point: The low bun style was probably chosen to keep little ones’ fingers out of her long, lush locks.
