Lupita Nyong’o was Literal Sunshine at the ACE Awards 2018
From her classic Cinderella-esque gown at the 2014 Oscars, to her edgy, gravity-defying hair at this year’s Black Panther premiere, if anyone knows how to work a red carpet, it’s Lupita Nyong’o.
Last night was the 2018 Accessories Council Excellence Awards. The runway was full of colourful gowns and statement earrings, but even amidst a sea of striking looks, Nyong’o stole the show. And yes, she looked like literal sunshine.
The yellow tulle dress by Carolina Herrera popped against the blue carpet, which matched a delicate blue bow tied around her waist. The actress wore quirky earrings featuring dangling animals and flowers, a style that was mimicked in the funky embroidery on her gown. To finish the look off, she cradled a sparkling purple pineapple clutch (say that three times fast) from Judith Leiber.
But Nyong’o wasn’t just bold with her outfit, she shook things up with her makeup look, too. Peachy eyeshadow popped beside Swarovski cobalt blue rhinestones.
The ACE Awards recognize individuals and groups that are raising awareness about the accessory industry. During the night, Nyong’o presented the Style Influencer Award to her stylist, Micaela Erlanger, who released her own book, How to Accessorize, earlier this year.
Clearly, the award was well deserved. There’s a lot going on with this look, but Nyong’o pulls it off effortlessly. This is why she is the runway queen. She’s a fashion risk-taker who owns what she wears and always walks the runway beaming.
