Channel Your Inner Artist in These Jean-Michel Basquiat-themed Socks

When Stance started out in 2009, the sock company had one goal in mind: change the way people think about socks. The brand wanted to take an accessory that’s traditionally thought of as boring, and transform it into something exciting. With inspiration and collaboration from athletes, performers and cultural icons, Stance has achieved that, creating a line-up of socks that truly make a statement. The brand’s newest collaboration features the work of the late graffiti artist and painter, Jean-Michel Basquiat.

Basquiat was renowned for his thought-provoking pieces in the late 70s and 80s, especially within the American punk scene. His work asked questions, created conversation and explored the dichotomy between themes of wealth and poverty, or integration and segregation. The Manhattan-based artist passed away in 1988 at the age of 27 after a struggle with heroin addiction. However, the artist’s poetic work has lived on, continuing to resonate with people across the world. Last year one of his paintings sold for $110.5 million, setting a record high for an American artist at auction. It’s clear that his provocative art is still just as relevant today as it was 30 years ago.

With this new collection, Stance continues to honour Basquiat’s legacy. The line will include socks for men, women, and children. In addition, a selection of intimates and underwear will also be available in adult sizes. The pieces will feature some of the artist’s most celebrated works including In Italian, Cassius Clay and Pez Dispenser.
