Welcome to Talk Is Chic, your weekly fashion fix of all things fabulous!

With the close of another star-studded Toronto film fest, I needed a hit of glamour to keep my celebrity fixation running on high. Like any good jewellery junkie, I went for a double dose of Liz Taylor and curled up with Butterfield 8 and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

In the world of jewellery, no one rivals La Liz. But when it comes to the world of crystal, no one rivals Swarovski. And in case its sparklers didn’t speak for themselves, it was also one of the official sponsors of the Toronto International Film Festival this year.

On a recent Friday afternoon in a suite in the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, I oohed and aahed over the bevy of baubles laid out before me. François Ortarix, the head of international PR for Swarovski and sort of a James Bond of jewellery, pulled out an array of velvet-lined trays filled with some lust-worthy vintage jewellery and handbags. No longer available for purchase, these monumental accessories are red carpet-ready for celebrities to borrow for any big night. Never one to miss a good celeb chow-chow, I asked the only question worth its weight in Wang in fashion land: What are they wearing? Turns out, Swarovski was snapped on Emma Thompson, Ali Landry, Catherine O’Hara and Steph Song during the week.

Back to reality after my movie marathon and Four Seasons frenzy, I realized that Taylor may have once said that “big girls need big diamonds,” but any modern-day gal knows that with condo fees, student payments and a growing closet, smart, style-savvy girls need fabulous crystals, too.
