Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte failed to show up at a ceremony at the White House, where they were to be honoured with the Smithsonian’s Cooper-Hewitt National Design Award for fashion design. A representative said there was a last minute change in plans and they had to attend a family obligation in Los Angeles. [WWD]

Things we learned from fashion maven Anna Dello Russo‘s twitter Q&A: she would never be caught dead in “a shapeless, slouchy, amorphous pyjama,” she refuses to clothe her dog, and if she could only take one pair of shoes to a deserted island, it would have to be a pair of black Alaïa ankle boots. Depending on the circumstances, the boots’ heels would come in quite handy in spearing fish.  [Twitter]

And while we’re still chatting about ADR, check out the photos of her humble abode by boy wonder blogger BryanBoy. Note the hundreds of shoes that would be left behind if ADR did find herself on that aforementioned island. [BryanBoy]

Chanel will be pulling all its fragrance products from Canadian Sears locations after a dispute over Sears trying to get in on Chanel’s savings from the strong Canadian dollar. Here’s hoping the Chanel salesladies find new counters to call home. [Globe and Mail]

Stella McCartney and PETA are pitching UK’s minister for defense equipment to create vegan hats for the Queen’s guards to replace the bearskin toppers, which have been used since 1815. Says PETA’s SVP Dan Matthews, “the bears will certainly be happier.” Somewhere in England, Paddington Bear is breathing a sigh of relief. [Racked]

Another one strong for the celebrity-fragrance bandwagon: Katy Perry will launch her perfume Purr in November. Scent wise, it gives off hints of peach nectar, jasmine, freesia and apple, but that all seems quite normal for Katy. We’re more curious about the bottle, maybe it will glow in the dark? [WWD]

Kelly Cutrone remarked recently that she doesn’t want her as yet unpublished second book to be in the self-help aisle like her first. “The kids that are buying my book were like ‘what are we doing in the self-help section-we are 21 years-old,'” says Cutrone. May we suggest bookstores make her a separate section called Real Talk. [People Style Watch via The Cut]
