Everything you need to know about Fendi’s 90th anniversary show

Turning 90 calls for a big party—and that’s exactly what Italian luxury brand Fendi did to mark its epic anniversary. The red carpet was rolled out for the first time in history at the Trevi Fountain in Rome (the iconic landmark underwent a $2.4 million dollar reno over the last year and a half) for the label’s Fall/Winter 2016/2017 Haute Fourrure show. The fashion crowd jetted over from Paris, where they had been taking in masterful confections during Haute Couture Week.

Fendi did not disappoint. Titled The Legends and Fairy Tales, this Haute Fourrure collection took inspo from a magical world where princesses and princes come to life. “All of the looks have something poetic, but in a very contemporary dimension,” said Karl Lagerfeld, creative director at Fendi. Forty-six enchanted looks came down the runway, which was see-through and built on top of the Trevi Fountain’s pools. Precious furs, like mink and lynx, were hand-cut and hand-painted, while handmade bead embroideries dazzled on dresses, embroidered lace and velvet jacquards created a romantic texture message, and beautifully embroidered lizard pochettes (designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi) and knitwear-like ankle boots cast a magical spell over attendees, like Kate Hudson, street style star and editor-at-large for Vogue Japan Anna Dello Russo and The Blonde Salad’s (and former FASHION cover star) Chiara Ferragni

From the magical setting to the luxe lineup to the models-of-the-moment (Kendall Jenner! Bella Hadid!), it was like a scene straight out of La Dolce Vita. After the show, guests had a spectacular view of Rome as they dined—a fairy tale evening from start to finish.
