The Founders of the Anonymous Diet Prada Instagram Have Been Unmasked

Since their first post in December 2014, Diet Prada has been the most exhilarating fashion Instagram in the game, consistently calling out designers for shoddily cited inspiration and downright plagiarism. The account’s watchful eye has earned them friends in high places — they count Gigi Hadid, British Vogue editor Edward Enninful and Jonah Hill among their followers — and made them something of a conscience for the industry. But their uncompromising nature has gained them high-profile enemies as well, including Stefano Gabbana of Dolce & Gabbana, who frequently leaves retaliatory comments on Diet Prada posts that criticize his label.

Today, the mysterious figures behind Diet Prada have been revealed by Business of Fashion to be Tony Liu, the designer behind menswear line You As, and Lindsay Schuyler, an industry consultant. The duo met while working for hat designer Eugenia Kim in 2010. A representative for the label refused to comment for the story.

Last fall, an article published on watchdog blog The Fashion Law outed Liu and Schuyler as the creators of Diet Prada, but they vehemently denied the association via the account’s Instagram stories at the time.

Liu and Schuyler have finally decided to reveal their identities because, as Liu says, “Ideally, we would like to make this a business. It’s going to be easier to [do that] if we put a face to the names.”
