Since launching her jewellery line Biko (ilovebiko.com) in 2005, Toronto designer Corrine Anestopoulos has found fans in celebrities like singer FKA Twigs and been tapped by eBay to design an 18-karat-gold collection, which will launch exclusively on the shopping site.
Why did you decide to focus on necklaces and earrings? “Necklaces and earrings brighten the face in magical ways. I love that you can actually wear these pieces into the new year and even stretch them into spring and summer.”
Do you have a favourite piece from this collection? “I like the Mila collar necklace for its star-statement quality. But I love the versatility of the Rock Crystal Jacket studs. The charm is a cast piece of crystal quartz plated in 18-karat gold. It hangs from the backing and is interchangeable with any pair of studs you already own. Who doesn’t love having countless options?”
What accessories do you recommend for the holidays? “Shiny gold and luxe silver in choker and collar silhouettes are my favourite. I also enjoy a good modern statement earring. To top off any holiday look, add bangles and rings.”
Do you have an accessory idol? “I discovered the work of Alexander Calder at Centre Pompidou in Paris. I became obsessed with his miniature movable wire circus. His jewellery was sculptural, magical and playful but still incredibly wearable, and I continue to be inspired by it after all this time.”
