Paris notes: Sunny frocks at Dior, billowing and body-con at Lanvin, and more [gallery]
There was a strange moment yesterday at the Tuileries when a crowd of several dozen photographers made their way towards the big white show tent for the Christian Dior Spring 2011 show.
The tightly-packed group seemed to glide across the gravel like a swarm of bees. Their cameras were held aloft, but the person at the centre of the pack was totally obscured by beefcake bodyguards.
Who could draw such a fuss? Yves Saint Laurent back from the dead?
No, just badgirl supermodel-turned-legend Kate Moss.
She was in town for Paris Vogue’s 90th anniversary party and to take in John Galliano’s sunny little dresses, just perfect for dinners on the French Riviera, which is where many Dior clients summer. And for those cooler nights on the yacht, there were white leather parkas to toss overtop.
Later that afternoon, Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz mixed two of the season’s top trends–the body-con dress and draping–into one single dress after another. There were also snug little frocks in tiny Miyake-like pleats. Oh, and fall’s circle skirt trend? Elbaz offered a jersey version that billowed around the legs.
We are not seeing a lot of tailoring for spring, but Elbaz knows some women need suits. His solution: a tunic-y jacket over leggings.
Other highlights of the day: Roland Mouret’s scarf-y mid-calf dresses and wide, soft shirts; the kaleidoscopic, acid-bright prints draped into black layers at Yohji Yamamoto; the floppy sequined vests amid athletic separates at Isabel Marant.
