Not just a Pretty Little Liar: Shay Mitchell launches her new T-shirt line Amore and Vita

Pretty Little Liars fans rejoice! Shay Mitchell has officially launched her first ever design line in collaboration with Canadian e-retailer, eLUXE. Alongside her best friend, Michaela Blaney, the Mississauga-born, Los Angeles-based star launched the collection as an addition to their quirky lifestyle blog, Amore & Vita. Featuring a number of T-shirts and tanks with cute sayings, the collection is said to be an extension of their laid-back personalities. “My favourite T-shirt is ‘I Need a Pizza That'” says Mitchell. “If anyone knows me, they know I love pizza!”
As for exactly what the collection stands for, Mitchell references the ‘Unique Clique’ tee, explaining that she wants to teach PLL fans that it’s cool to be unique and be yourself. As the duo originally created their blog to try out new recipes and Do-It-Yourself projects, they also wanted to encourage fans to get out there and try something new, which is exactly what Amore and Vita (Love and Life in Italian) is all about.
In an interview about the site, Mitchell explained that, like herself, the typical reader of Amore and Vita would be “a go-getter and someone who takes chances and doesn’t let a single opportunity pass her by.” Selling for $35-45 a piece, PLL fans can channel their inner Emily by scooping up their limited edition tees exclusively at eluxe.ca.
What was the inspiration behind the T shirt collaboration?
Our T shirt line was a really fun part that came out of the blog. It’s things we would buy. I love this t shirt the most that I’m wearing… it says I Need a pizza. It’s a little bit of both our personalities mixed into these shirts and the website of course which we just re-branded and re-launched. We post every day which is crazy and the t shirt line is just a little something extra we wanted to do, especially with Christmas coming up.
How did you re-brand your website?
We worked with two different artists to come up with a new name and logo. Amore & Vita means Love and Life, which is everything we are about. It was a collaboration of a few people to come up with the logo, and it was great.
Have you always been interested in design?
I’ve always been interested in design. I love clothes and fashion and it’s really just another extension of our personalities, especially for the blog. Clothes are something you wear everyday and express the mood you’re feeling, so that was definitely something I wanted to do and have fun with.
What type of girl would read your blog?
She’s a go-getter. She does everything for herself. She’s open to trying new things. She takes chances and doesn’t let an opportunity pass her by. It’s the one that wants to go out there and try everything. That’s something we really want to show our readers. If we can do it, you can do it. We’re trying out new recipes and things and we just want to show everybody that at the end of the day you have nothing to lose.
Which is your favourite T shirt?
Shay: The one I’m wearing now is my favourite. Anyone who knows me knows I love pizza! I thought it was funny. I also love the unique clique tee. It’s something I really want to show viewers who watch the show that it’s okay to be yourself
Michaela: I love the Amore & Vita one. I just love the logo.
Why did you choose to work with eLUXE?
We wanted to work with eLUXE because it’s Canadian. We had a friend who worked with them previously and we loved what they did. They really let us play with our own ideas and it was just a fun collaboration.
What are your plans for the future?
There are a lot of fun things coming up in the near future. We can’t really say yet, but definitely be on the look out!
