The 2017 iHeartRadio MMVAs: 12 Looks From The Pink Carpet

After a wild, wet and warm weekend in Toronto, the rain clouds cleared and the humidity lifted just in time for the iHeartRadio MMVAs (that’s a mouthful) to go off without any smudged mascara.

If you’ve been on Queen Street recently you’ll know this show takes weeks to prepare and build. We were glad to see a dry pink carpet so that all the celeb-watching could begin.

A music awards show is always a bit “out-there” when it comes to the fashion. Musicians want to stand out and make a splash. So the much maligned: “Who are you wearing?” just doesn’t work the same way it does with film stars.

A red headed Lights wore a dress she said she made with her mom (sweet), while fashion’s embrace of politics and the slogan T struck a chord with Lily Singh a.ka. Superwoman. Her white t-shirt was emblazoned with “Love Thy Sister.”

Earlier in the day we spoke with Shay Mitchell as she got ready for the show. She was outfitted in a bodysuit with a sheer overlay but Mitchell told FASHION, her outfit was originally white so she had it dyed to appear more ivory. In a similar vein, Camila Cabello wore a sheer ruffle dress with cut outs at the shoulders. While the controversial singer Iggy Azalea didn’t disappoint. She made a statement in a tight pink floor length gown with lace up corset-style detailing that recalled Liz Hurley’s famous Versace safety-pin dress.

A personal favourite was Grimes. She wore this sexy-secretary blood orange day dress and paired it with nerdy coke-bottle glasses. Very cool. Victoria’s Secret model Martha Hunt went designer, the presenter appeared in an off-the-shoulder top from low-key label Ellery, which she paired with crazy flared bell bottoms that modestly demonstrated why she’s a swimsuit model. Curves…the lady’s got curves.
