While there are many things to look forward to in the fall (new collections, trends, Fashion Week!), we’re making the most of summer while it lasts. That being said, our hair won’t miss all the heat and humidity once the season is over. Humidity makes perfect curls turn to frizz, causes straight hair to curl and makes sleek hair virtually impossible. And don’t even talk to us about the torture that is using a blow dryer in a bathroom without A/C!

But before you decide to chop it all off (although celebrities like Beyoncé are tempting us!), we suggest checking in with the Beauty Panel. This week our beauty blogging experts are sharing the tips and tricks to their go-to summer hairstyles. From taming a voluminous head of hair into a no-mess, no fuss style to keeping your hair healthy all season long, the Beauty Panel is here to help.

Challenge 24: What’s your go-to summer hairstyle? See the answers now! »

Both Twenty York Street’s Marilou Moles and Stealing Beauty’s Alexa Lowe are strong believers of hair masks. Not only will it make your hair look moisturized and sleek, it’s the perfect way to keep your hair healthy and protect it from the summer sun. While JJ Cowan of SFYGF has tried everything to minimize the volume of her hair during summer months, a recent discovery made all the difference in getting it silky smooth. And if you’re looking for an effortless hairstyle, A Pop of Colour’s Shayna Wiwierski has a great summer suggestion that includes a simple fishtail braid. After all, if you can’t beat the heat, you may as well work with it.

When it gets really hot and humid, the last thing I want is hair in or around my face.  Instead of a typical ponytail, I love doing a fishtail braid that drapes over my shoulder.

I’ll often do this style if I’m in a rush or straight out of the shower because it’s quick to do and easier to braid if your hair is wet. Because I have layers in my hair, I often find that strands pop out, so I have to bobby pin the back. For the pieces at the front, I’ll take either a curling iron or straightener and curl those sections, creating a messy, glam effect.  For a full summer look, I’ll pop a flower in my hair.

Since your hair dries in the fishtail, when you take it out at night or the next morning, your locks will have a wave to them, and I find it looks like I just got a fresh blowout.

I have a lot of hair and I love nothing more than to wear it down in the summertime, as a result, my head can get pretty hot, fast! Another issue that I experience with the summer heat is the added volume my hair takes on as the humidity rises. So, I have become a bit of an expert at keeping my hair bone straight even on the most humid days of the year in order to minimize the heat factor around my head. However, this can be an incredibly difficult task not only because I am constantly applying heat with the over use of my straightening iron but finding the right hair product to protect my hair is an equally tough endeavor.

Over the years, I have tried just about every product on the market that claims to protect your hair against heat wielding hair tools. I have over spent on products that actually increased the appearance of split ends because the product striped the hair of moisture instead of maintaining it. At the beginning of the summer I was hesitant to use anything other than my Moroccan Oil but as the summer progressed so did my hairs frizz. Desperate, I made a last ditch effort to control my mane and was encouraged to try Uniq One’s All In One Hair Treatment that does everything from protecting your hair against heat to adding shine and moisture. Hesitant, I thought “why, not” and made the purchase.

Well, it worked so well that I raved about it to my hairstylist who apparently heard the same thing and feel this will be a long lasting relationship. I suggest blow-drying your hair first, than spray a light mist of Uniq One on to hair before running your iron through it, following the iron with a comb to leave the hair silky smooth.

There’s no doubt that summer is my favourite season of the year! Not only that the living is easy and the dressing is light but summer hair is also carefree!

I have been very blessed to have a hair that goes down super straight at any time of the day. (Okay, it could equally be a curse when I need to curl my hair for special occasions.) I stay away from any heavy products and styling tools and normally would just air-dry my hair after using Thann’s gentle and nourishing Aromatherapy shampoo and conditioner.

If there’s one thing I’m vigilant about, it’s protecting my hair from the sun’s harmful UV rays. I use Thann Shiso Hair Mask three times a week. This hair mask not only keeps your hair protected against the elements but it gives your hair that smooth, silky and healthy feel all summer long!
