Are you even a celebrity if you don’t have a beauty line these days? It seems that almost monthly someone is announcing their intention to create a new range of products — we suspect Kylie Jenner’s billion-dollar success has probably had something to do with this. Now, news has emerged that we can expect to see a Selena Gomez beauty line in the near future.
The actress-turned-producer has filed paperwork with the US Patent and Trademark office to trademark “Selena Gomez”, according to WWD. The paperwork reportedly lists “fragrances, cosmetics, skin-care preparations, hair-care preparations, soaps, moisturizers and essential oils” and more under the brand name, indicating that the range is likely to be fairly sizeable.
Beauty lines have proven to be major moneymakers for celebrities in recent years. Kylie and Rihanna are both solid proof of this, as are Kim Kardashian West, Miranda Kerr and Jessica Alba. According to Zion Market Research, the global cosmetic products market is expected to reach $1 trillion in 2024 making the prospect of a successful line even more enticing.
The next major celebrity beauty launch will come courtesy of Lady Gaga whose debut range — called Haus Laboratories — will launch on Amazon next month. The singer has opted for a digital-only approach choosing the e-tail giant as her key retail partner. The range has been available to pre-order for Prime customers for the past four weeks and the full range will be available for purchase and delivery next month.
Selena has made no comment on her business expansion plans as yet, however this will not be her first official foray into the beauty industry having launched an eponymous fragrance in 2011.
