It may be frightful outside this holiday season, but that doesn’t mean your makeup has to be, right? The holidays are a great time to experiment with your beauty routine and add some more-daring-than-usual elements, so follow this step-by-step holiday party makeup tutorial (in gifs!) for an easy standout look.

To create this look you’ll need to keep your skin products to a minimum. We applied a light layer of foundation just to even out skin and remove any blemishes. With bold lips and eyes you’ll need to make sure your face isn’t too heavy – avoid too much blush and bronzer for this look.

First apply eye shadow to your eyelids with a flat brush. Make sure to apply using a patting method (instead of a circular motion) to avoid creating a ‘heavy’ look.

To create a smoky eye, add a darker shade to the outer corners in a ‘v’ shape, making sure to blend as much as possible.

Blend, blend, blend: Use a finger to now smudge the remaining makeup along your upper eyelid, remembering to focus on the outer ‘v’ to create a seamless look.

Next, grab your black eyeliner and line your upper eyelids from your outer corner to your inner eye stopping two inches from your inner eye duct. This will give the illusion of bigger, more intense eyes.

A beautiful pout can make or break any look. Apply your dark plum lipstick with a thin brush to avoid making mistakes and to create an even coat. Feel free to use a matte lipstick if you prefer.
