Fendi Wants You To Wear Your Headband Backwards

Well alright then.

Silvia Venturini Fendi presented her Fall/Winter 2020 collection for Fendi at Milan Fashion Week yesterday, serving up several memorable moments during the runway show. From oversized totes (much to @itsmaysmemes delight we’re sure) to printed coats, sheer accents and statement sleeves, there was plenty to love.

One detail in particular caught our eye, however – models, including Bella Hadid and Kaia Gerber, had their hair styled into a slicked-back braided bun (described on Instagram by hairstylist extraordinaire Sam McKnight as “a pretzel meets a walnut whip”), adorned with a headband. But the headband wasn’t worn on the crown of the head as we’ve come to expect, but rather flipped and worn backwards beginning from the ears and decorating the space underneath the bun above the neck.

It seems so simple, and yet provided an incredibly cool, edgy finish to the otherwise feminine, polished looks. There were a variety of finishes, too, including velvet, satin and leather, in an array of hues – proving that a good headband can work with any outfit no matter which way you wear it.

We plan on embracing this styling technique immediately and suspect we’re not the only ones – keep an eye out in the street style looks for early adopters, too.

The show also featured another major moment: extended size model Paloma Elsesser made her debut for the brand, marking the first time a non-straight size model has walked for the house in its history.
