12 Quick-Fire Questions With Liam Payne

The former One Direction member talks fragrance, grooming and more.

Liam Payne has come a long way since his One Direction boyband days. In 2017, the English-born singer welcomed a son, Bear Grey Payne, and just this past December, dropped his three-years-in-making debut solo album, LP1. Last year also saw Payne join forces with German luxury fashion house Hugo Boss, a partnership that was kicked off with a formalwear-meets-athleisure fashion capsule collection (aptly named HUGO x Liam Payne) that launched during Berlin Fashion Week in July. Now, Payne is the new global face of Hugo fragrances, and we got the chance to ask the entertainer a round of rapid-fire questions.

Biggest inspiration:

“I would say Brad Pitt. He’s one of my favourite actors. To go from an extra to where he is now is incredible and he’s worked really hard to get there.”

On when he feels the most empowered:

“Seeing the fans having a good time when I’m on stage makes me feel really empowered and really happy that we can share that moment.”

Dream dinner guests:

“Post Malone, John Mayer, Kim Jones, Frank Sinatra and Brad Pitt. What a team! I feel like I have so much to discuss with them and to learn from them all.”

Best piece of life advice:

“Of all the amazing people I’ve met and worked with, there is one piece of advice that they all give, and that is never give up on your dreams. As cheesy as that sounds, every single one of those people have had knock backs and hard times, and if they had given up, the world would be a different place.”

Most treasured possession:

“I have a picture of my family that I always keep with me when I’m away. That’s pretty special to me.”

On how he wears fragrance:

“I’m a classic spray on the wrists and neck man! Is there another way?”

Skincare routine:

“I use morning and evening collagen serums from QMS Medicosmetics and a Dermalogica face wash to get rid of any build up through the day. Other than that I’d say lots of sleep and plenty of water!”

Fallback, everyday hairstyle:

“I like to change my hair a lot; I’ve had more hairstyles than I’ve had hot dinners! I’m currently growing it out, so the best product for me at the moment is a texturizing hairspray from Fudge.

Desert-island product pick:

“It’s got to be suntan lotion, hasn’t it?”

Favourite item in his closet:

“I have just recently started to really like fedora hats. It’s a new look for me but I’m really enjoying it.”

Biggest indulgence:

“I love trainers and have a huge collection of them. I really like limited edition ones especially.”

Favourite daytime spritz:

“Hugo Man is a classic and great for day-to-day. They also have this on-the-go spray which is good for when you’re traveling”
