Well, she did it again. At last night’s State Dinner (the first in honour of our PM in almost two decades), Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau stunned in an all-Canadian look, proving yet again that we’ve got plenty to offer right here at home.

For her big night out, Trudeau chose a cap-sleeved purple gown by Montreal-based Lucian Matis, which featured tangerine and pink pearl embroidery and a keyhole detail at the neckline. She paired it with even more Can-con: a clutch custom made by Ela, heels custom made by Zvelle, John de Jong moonstone earrings and a Dean Davidson ring. Damn, Sophie!

U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama has been flying the maple leaf too, choosing a stunning strapless gown by B.C. raised Jason Wu for last night’s State Dinner, as well as a green Tanya Taylor look earlier in the day. To boot, the night’s guest-list was stacked with Canadians: Ryan Reynolds and wife Blake Lively, Grey’s Anatomy star Sandra Oh, Mike Myers, Lorne Michaels and more. And while Drake’s invite clearly got lost in the mail, PM Justin Trudeau proved he was #hip by cracking a Justin Bieber joke during his toast.

Grégoire-Trudeau’s fashion choices have cast a much needed spotlight on Canadian designers in the past couple of days, generating headlines everywhere from Vogue to the Washington Post. Here’s to plenty more that came from.
