The pantsuit, the women’s tux, Le smoking, as Yves Saint Laurent famously called it—there’s no doubt this menswear-inspired get-up is perfect for work and even more perfect for the red carpet. We love when the A-listers leave frothy gowns back home in favour of this riskier look, so when we saw Nicole Kidman doing just that at TIFF 2013 yesterday, we couldn’t help compare her to a recent pantsuit-wearer, Olivia Wilde.

Kidman looked perfectly prim in an Altuzarra tailored suit at the premiere of her new movie, The Railway Man. This was how to wear a figure-flattering suit 101: the blazer’s darting gives her a great shape up top, while the cigarette pants show off her signature slim legs. Standout lace paneling dresses the suit up perfectly for the red carpet. Paired with her feminine bow-covered Louis Vuitton pointy toe heels, a sleek chignon, and shocking pink lips, the outfit was a knockout.

Olivia Wilde took a slightly different approach to the black suit—a very va-va-va-voom one—for the premiere of Ron Howard’s new movie Rush. Less pretty, more  racy, Wilde’s Gucci look screams sex appeal. The boxy jacket and looser pant nicely balance her down-to-there neckline (did we mention she’s not wearing a shirt?). Simpleblack heels and minimal accessories keep the look simple and unfussy. Tousled barrel curls, a bright red lip, and a sultry smokey eye make this look the ultimate siren call.

Who do you think wore the black suit better? Pretty n’ prim Nicole Kidman or vampy Olivia Wilde?
