Michelle Rodriguez Threatens to Quit Fast and Furious if They Don’t “Show Love to Women”

If you’re going to give your employer an ultimatum, why not do it in front of 3.8 million Instagram followers?

That’s how Michelle Rodriguez played her latest job role request, and the power move is making headlines. The female star of Fast and Furious has publicly demanded that the franchise puts more women in the spotlight. And if they don’t? Well, Rodrigues says she might walk.

“F8 is out digitally today, I hope they decide to show some love to the women of the franchise on the next one,” she captioned a collage of behind-the-scenes photos. “Or I just might have to say goodbye to a loved franchise. It’s been a good ride & Im grateful for the opportunity the fans & studio have provided over the years… One Love.”

Rodriguez has been with the franchise since day one, appearing in six of the eight Fast and Furious movies as the ride-or-die love interest of Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel). And so, it’s no surprise that this isn’t the first time the 38-year-old actress has called out the films’ testosterone-heavy casting. Just last month, Rodriguez sat down with Entertainment Weekly to air her frustrations.

“Now, having girls run around and do a bunch of really cool stuff, that’s great, it’s wonderful,” she told EW, “but we never talk to each other. It’s very rare that they even look at each other. I’ve been making movies with Jordana, who plays the sister of Dom Toretto, for 16 years and I can count on one hand how many lines I’ve had to her. I think that’s pathetic and it’s lack of creativity.”

There’s another lesson we can take away from Rodriguez’s badass Instagram post. If you do plan on calling your bosses out publicly, make sure to finish your threat with a colourful string of cute emojis. There’s no better way to ease the tension.
