It may have been a week of more serious royal engagements, but today called for something a little more fun for our favourite royal. Earlier today, Kate Middleton visited the Downton Abbey set, where she was warmly welcomed by the crew and the cast that included Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern. Now it’s no secret that Kate, Prince William and the Middleton family are big fans of the award-winning period drama, but judging by the show and Joanne Froggatt’s tweets earlier this morning, Kate wasn’t the only one excited for the special visit. Though we would have loved to see another royal trio appearance like we did during her first pregnancy on the Harry Potter set, seeing how gleeful she looked upon arrival, we can’t complain.

Making this her first official visit (we hear she and her family did a private tour last year), Kate not only got a chance to see different areas of the production process—including the cast getting made up and glimpse inside the costume department—the smiling royal also watched the filming of a scene from season six. But a visit at Downton Abbey isn’t complete without some memorabilia. While Mrs. Patmore (aka Lesley Nicol) baked a chocolate cake in honour of #DuchessAtDownton day, four-year-old twins Zac and Oliver Barker (they play Master George Crawley), along with Lady Mary Crawley Michelle Dockery, presented Kate with a pretty bouquet as well as a wooden train for Prince Georgie. The tour finished off with a reception and a photo op with the cast dressed in character.

So what did Kate wear to commemorate this joyful visit? After a couple of appearances of wearing her tried-and-true maternal wear, a new outfit was due. Arriving with grace and poise, the Duchess stepped out in a cream “Princess” wool coat by leading British mother and baby brand, Jojo Maman Bébé (you can buy it here) with a matching dress underneath. Sticking to yesterday’s accessories (a pair of black Stuart Weitzman pumps, a Mulberry Bayswater clutch and Annoushka pearl drop earrings), the royal rounded off her look with her hair worn down in loose curls.
