Kate Middleton breaks tradition and wears a brown Catherine Walker for St. Patrick’s Day

After a restful and enjoyable weekend for the Cambridges (they spent most of their time in Bucklebury to celebrate British Mother’s Day), Kate Middleton and Prince William looked refreshed this morning when attending the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at Mons Barracks in Aldershot, England to honour the 1st Battalion Irish Guard. While the Duke of Cambridge fulfilled his role as colonel of the regiment looking smart in his Irish Guards tunic (he sported it for the royal wedding), the Duchess presented the Royal Shamrock to the Battalion after watching two hundred soldiers march on to the Parade Square – a long-established role designated for the Queen until recent years.
For the past three consecutive years, Kate has traditionally worn green (she wore her Emilia Wickstead coat back in 2012 and 2013 and her Hobbs trench in 2014) at the annual parade. But for today’s event, the royal changed things up and broke tradition in a new custom-made brown coat by Catherine Walker. While it would have been nice to see her get in the St. Patrick’s spirit (plus, she does look stunning in green), she nailed the compliment-worthy look. Working her signature head-to-toe one-tone look, Kate teamed her outfit with brown suede pumps by Emmy Shoes and topped it off with a matching beret by Lock & Co. Standing out amongst her accessories were her gold jewellery picks: 18K gold citrine pearl-drop earrings by Kiki McDonough and an Irish Guards shamrock three-leaf brooch that has previously been worn by the Queen and Princess Anne.
