9 things even Mean Girls superfans don’t know

So it’s 2016, 12 years after the release of Mean Girls and I think it’s safe to say that “fetch” hasn’t happened. However, fans of the film had plenty to freak out about last week at an outdoor screening of the movie in Toronto.

TIFF and Pride Toronto partnered up with Harbourfront Centre to screen the movie at its lakeside stage. This wasn’t any typical outdoor screening though. Daniel Franzese (Damian) and Kevin G. (Rajiv Surendra) made an appearance, and Lindsay Lohan even got in the action by video-chatting with fans for a quick Q+A. That’s right, even though it’s been over a decade since the film’s release (insane, right?), there were still some things we needed answered. Until now, that is.

Here are 9 things you may not have known about Mean Girls:

It was Lindsay Lohan’s proudest career moment
It’s pretty obvious that LiLo was at her prime while filming Mean Girls. She claimed the movie was her proudest moment and really helped shape her as a person.

Daniel Franzese was closeted while filmimg
Even though he played the “too gay to function” Damien, Daniel was still in the closet while filming the movie. He’s now been as out and as proud as his character for a decade.

Kevin G. is from Toronto
Most die-hard fans know that Mean Girls was filmed in T.O. But did you know our favourite mathlete is also from The 6ix?

Daniel Franzese and Lindsay Lohan are best friends
Who would have thought that Cady and Damian would remain BFFs IRL over a decade later? Lindsay claims they still see each other all the time.

Lindsay Lohan’s favourite scene is wild (quite literally)
When asked by a fan, Lindsay was quick to say that the cafeteria scene was her fave. You know, the one where she viciously attacks Regina George (Rachel McAdams).

Damian wasn’t singing to a large audience at the talent show
Daniel Franzese revealed that he first filmed the scene with only one person in the audience: his mom. Cue the awwws.

It was Tina Fey’s first movie
According to Daniel Franzese, Mean Girls was her first ever movie. I think we can all agree it was a great debut for the writer/actress.

Amy Poehler is only 7 years older then Rachel McAdams
Rachel McAdams was 25 when she played Regina George, while her onscreen mom was 32.

Chibi the Chihuahua is alive (and now 17 years old)
That’s right, Regina George’s dog is still alive and kicking at 17 years old. We suppose using her mom’s boobs as chew toys wasn’t too toxic to the pooch.
